2019 collection dates
Why do we collect papers and clothes?
Scouting is an affordable way of providing a range of exciting and adventurous activities for your child and we are committed to ensuring our Group is accessible to all by keeping our monthly subscriptions as low as possible. The funds we raise from recycling waste paper provide a significant income to our annual Group budget – we can raise up to £1,000 per full skip – so this is a relatively simple but extremely cost-effective way for us to fund-raise.
Sending used clothing for re-use or recycle also helps to top up the pot for little effort.
How and when do we collect them?
All our members are encouraged to bring in waste paper and used clothing from home and from friends, family and neighbours. Bags of papers can be left by the skip at any time and there is a clothing collection box in the scout hut porch.
We also run paper collection days on Saturdays approximately every 6 weeks throughout the year where we pick up papers that residents in our local area save for us.
How can you help?
The more papers we collect, the more funds we receive.
You can help by bringing in as much paper and clothing as possible from your own home, friends & family. You can also volunteer to be a drop-off point for your neighbours in your street/area, please contact us for more details.
A large portion of the papers we receive are brought in during our regular Saturday morning paper collections and we need volunteers from the Group to help with these. We use our van and minibus so we need drivers and adult assistants for these plus lots of additional help at the scout hut for unloading and stacking papers in the skip. Follow the links on the dates at the top of this page to let us know which dates you can help with.
