Leave a legacy

Charities receive about £1.6 billion from legacies, but the Scouts only get around £200,000 a year. Why? Because we don’t ask.

In 2008, The Scout Association held a number of meetings with members to ascertain how they feel about financially supporting the Scouts, locally and/or nationally, through leaving a gift in their will.
The meetings were truly fascinating, and we uncovered some really interesting things.
One particularly thought-provoking fact was that 20% of adult members have already included gifts to charities in their will, but only half of them had included the Scouts either locally or nationally.
When we asked why the Scouts were not ‘top of the list’, the answer was invariably ‘I had never even thought about it’, and they went on to explain that they had never really considered the Scouts as a charity in need of a legacy.
Please take a look at the brochure below, which gives more details about legacies and the wording required in a will if you or anyone you know is interested in making a lasting gift to Scouting.
Every gift in every will can help ensure the long-term financial security of the Movement.
