Jamboree fundraiser – Halloween disco

collageThe World Scout Jamboree takes place every 4 years and offers a unique international experience with an exciting programme of global development, peace, cultural understanding, adventure, learning fun and friendship and provides the opportunity to meet Scouts from around the globe, take part in exciting activities and have an amazing adventure.

Two lucky Scouts from our Group, Emma & Grace, have been selected to join the UK Contingent at the 24th World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, USA in 2019.

Grace says “We each need to raise £3700 so we will be doing lots of fundraising, this Halloween disco is one of our important events that will go towards this total. We would really appreciate your support as this money we raise will also go to support scouting in developing countries worldwide.”

For more information about the disco or to buy tickets, please contact the girls via 07534 435523 or speak to Dolphins Leader Caroline.

We wish both girls good luck with their fundraising challenge and hope they have an adventure of a lifetime next year!

Summer fair

What another amazing day, our community coming together to have fun and good times and raise lots of money to support our Group.

A massive thank you to our dedicated fundraising team once again (especially the fair coordinator Theresa) for putting on a fabulous day for us all – they really do put a huge amount of hard work in over many weeks (and months) before all these events.

Thank you to all of you for showing up on the day and making it such a success. Special thanks to Spotlight Dance School for providing some lovely entertainment and to Lucy’s dad for bringing along his magical music machine which was a lovely bonus, as was the amazing weather 🙂

The great news is that we have raised over £700 for Group funds from the summer fair – thank you everyone for all your support.

York Cubs cooking competition

On 14th April, teams of 4 young people from Groups across York took part in the York Cubs cooking competition at Snowball Plantation.
Despite being 1 man down, James Murray, Daffyd Chiplin and Adam Foster put in a great team effort to represent 1st Clifton and proudly showed off their many skills. They got their own fire stove going before peeling, cooking and mashing potatoes to serve with the peas and sausages that they also confidently cooked themselves.
For pudding they prepared freshly made custard from custard powder and milk which they served with Swiss roll. Finally they made tea or coffee for the judges before the inevitable washing up!
We’re very proud to say that the boys earned a very respectable 3rd place – congratulations!

St George’s Day parade 2018

Scout groups gathering at the eye of york with castle in the backgroundWell done to all our young people who came along to join the St George’s Day parade and service today along with our dedicated adult volunteers. Thank you for representing our Group so well with your smart turnout, excellent behaviour, great singing and efficient marching.

We’re very proud and you should all be too as this earned us the award for best Group in the parade for Minster District. Well done everyone!

We’d also like to congratulate Antony Hale, Group Chair and Acting Group Scout Leader, who was unable to join our parade in York today as he travelled to Windsor to collect a special award for his many years service to Scouting. Antony has been awarded the Bar to the Silver Acorn in the St George’s Day Awards, an award for distinguished service in recognition of his numerous roles over many years in the Group, District and at Snowball. Congratulations Tony!

Christmas Fair – Grand total update

Ronnie the reindeer has counted up all the pennies and he’s amazed and delighted to announce that our Christmas Fair raised a whopping £1375!!

It was a tremendous day and we are so grateful to everyone who helped in any way to make this happen and support us. Whether it was organising, donating goods, setting up, manning a stall or simply turning up and spending – thank you all so much.

Our little scout hut was full to bursting, the queue for santa lastest all afternoon, Kenny’s live music was awesome and we reaffirmed that community spirit is alive and well in Clifton and in our scout group. Thank you all.
